Olympic Ballet Theatre’s Coppelia Production Shoot

Just before Loren and I left for the huge photography convention, WPPI,  in Las Vegas, we got to take on an amazingly fun project together with Olympic Ballet Theatre to photograph their principal ballerina, Mara Vinson for their upcoming production of Coppelia.

Working from our home, Loren and I have found it extremely cathartic to have ample hobbies that get us out of the house and away from the computer screens.  Loren is big on mountain biking, got me skiing… basically, he likes to go down mountains rapidly.  I on the other hand, have always been a big reader.  That wasn’t getting me out of the house nearly enough and in fact, I’d just end up obsessively checking email instead of taking some necessary downtime.  Loren encouraged me to re-kindle my ballet practice that I had grown up doing.  This brings us back to Olympic Ballet Theatre in Edmonds which is where I attend classes and absolutely LOVE.

This year, Artistic Director Helen Wilkins along with choreographers Mara Vinson {a former PNB Principal Ballerina} and Oleg Gorboulev {a current PNB instructor} are staging Coppelia.  We were thrilled to collaborate with these artists to create the photograph that their upcoming show poster is based on.  We took a couple of hours one evening, our cameras, and our lights and headed to the studio to create the perfect shot.  As Mara prepared her shoes and her hair and make up, Loren and I entertained ourselves by photographing the unique look that a ballet studio has.  Then Loren surprised and delighted me as he secretly shot images of me working!  Below is what we did that night.

Olympic Ballet Theatre‘s production of Coppelia is the April 16th & 17th.  It’s been absolutely years in production and is going to be outstanding!  You can purchase tickets to the show by visiting www.showclix.com or calling 1.888.71.TICKETS
